Awareness session on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction for NSS Unit at Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 10, Chandigarh

 

An awareness session on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction for NSS unit was organised at Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 10, Chandigarh on 27 Dec 2015. The event was co-ordinated by Dr. Priti Garg, NSS Program Officer of the school. There was participation of around 100 NSS volunteers who were very enthusiastic and passionate for serving the society.

 

A detailed presentation on Climate Change was delivered by Mr. Navneet Trivedi, Climate Leader/Presenter with The Climate Reality Project. The students took active part in the discussions and made the session very interactive and interesting. The session took the students through basic sciences behind the climate change and global warming follwed by their consequences on our day to day life. And in the concluding part students were sensitised towards their individual as well as collective role in mitigating its adverse effects.

 

In an another session on Disaster Risk Reduction the NSS volunteers were briefed about a new concept of Disaster Risk Management, that focused on minimising the impact of any disaster by building resilience through spreading knowledge and awarness, enhancing preparedness and conduct of various emergency and mock drills.

 

Shri Vivek Trivedi, concluded the event with a talk on discipline and self motivation and inspired the students by quoting various reformers/leaders and academicians.
